Kaitlyn
Founder & Owner
Coastal Child Care began with a simple idea: create a better solution for both families and caregivers. Before founding Coastal in 2020, Kaitlyn built her career working directly with children through daycare, babysitting, preschool teaching, babysitting, public school substitute teaching, and long-term nannying. Her experience on both sides of childcare gave her firsthand insight into what families need and what caregivers deserve.
Kaitlyn holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Children’s Rights from Old Dominion University and has specialized experience in interactive play, gentle parenting, sleep training, early childhood sign language, sensory activities, fine motor development, Montessori methods, and safe sleep. Becoming a mom herself has only deepened her perspective and inspired Coastal’s Mother’s Helper services, creating another way to give families the support they need.
After college, as her nanny schedule filled, families continued coming to Kaitlyn through word of mouth, asking her to provide care or recommend someone she trusted. She began connecting them with fellow colleagues, and her mom, Karen, jokingly told her she should “hire them all,” Coastal Child Care was born.
Kaitlyn also experienced firsthand how difficult it could be for young nannies to advocate for themselves, negotiate employment, and navigate families needing help with proper payroll and nanny taxes. She built Coastal around a different approach: create a system that works for everyone. Coastal employs its placement nannies directly, giving caregivers an employer who has their back while making payroll, taxes, and employment responsibilities easier for families.
While Kaitlyn now works primarily behind the scenes with a team she deeply trusts, her vision remains the same: to be the solution between families and caregivers and create a childcare experience where everyone benefits.
Cali
Operations Coordinator
Cali brings a unique perspective to Coastal Child Care, having experienced the company first as a nanny and now as part of the team behind the scenes. After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University, Cali taught Kindergarten in her hometown of Lexington, NC. When she relocated to coastal North Carolina with her military husband, she joined Coastal as a nanny and quickly fell in love with the supportive, family-focused approach she experienced firsthand.
Today, Cali helps keep Coastal running smoothly across family communication, caregiver hiring and matching, app bookings, event care, and day-to-day operations. Organized, dependable, and compassionate, she especially values building strong relationships and believes clear communication is at the heart of great childcare. She’s passionate about working for a local business that genuinely supports both the families it serves and the caregivers who care for them.
Karen
Family Services Consultant
With more than 23 years of professional experience in preschool and childcare, Karen brings a wealth of knowledge and a genuine passion for supporting families to Coastal Child Care. Over the years, she has served as a Preschool Teacher, Afterschool Childcare Provider, and Preschool, Summer Childcare, and Program Assistant Director, where she helped oversee 50 employees and support more than 150 families. She has also raised four children of her own, giving her a unique perspective on both childcare and family life.
Karen believes that strong relationships are at the heart of great childcare. As a Family Services Consultant, she uses her experience, organization, and communication skills to help families navigate their childcare needs and find the right fit. With extensive training in early childhood education, safety, development, and age-appropriate learning, Karen brings the knowledge and personal care that families can count on.
Erin
Hiring Manager
Erin brings a unique blend of education, childcare experience, and personal perspective to her role as Hiring Manager at Coastal Child Care. With a B.S. in Psychological Sciences and an M.S. in School Counseling, she has a strong understanding of child development, behavior, and emotional support. Her experience as a camp counselor, ABA therapist, substitute teacher, and daycare teacher has shaped her passion for helping children feel safe, supported, and ready to grow.
As a mom herself, Erin understands the trust families place in their caregivers. She brings patience, creativity, and compassion to every caregiver interaction, helping Coastal connect families with caregivers who are not only qualified, but truly the right fit.
